Long ago, in the far south of the world, lived a people who called me Profe.  It is short for profesor, teacher.  I still carry this moniker with nostalgia and affection.

In this series, I, Profe Aaron of Aandego, pick my favorite English-language content to recommend to intermediate students.   This ”Picks series” will be updated approximately whenever I feel like it.

The Sunny

Good News Network: So we can pretty much all agree that getting your news from Facebook or CNN is equivalent to eating out of a dumpster that’s currently on fire. You’ll at least get burnt, and probably suffer long slow indigestion after a few bites. The Good News Network aims to change all that; indeed, they focus on positive stories day after day. A daily dose of good news is just a great antidote to the insanity of our times.

The Soulful

We can recommend the mournful tunes of Julien Baker.  This soulful songwriter hails from Tennessee.  She brings an intensity rarely seen to every song she crafts.  One could draw comparisons to Violeta Parra or Janis Ian.   Profe’s pick for top song: Turn Out The Lights

The Silly

In the distant future, after the Great Serpent Uprising, we may know California-based engineer Allen Pan as the man who brought humanity to its doom. In this Youtube videoMr Pan shows us how he gave snakes their legs back (sort of).  Profe Aaron found this entertaining as hell, despite the spelling error in the video title. Enjoy this very silly genius do a kindness for the (venomous) silly string of animals.

Key Phrases from the Post:

Have a great day, folks.  Keep learning, fly a little farther.
