The Funny
Little Mosque on the Prairie
This sitcom is hard to explain simply because there is nothing to compare it too. It takes place in Saskatchewan, a mostly rural province in western Canada. It features an immigrant community and their daily lives as they move to a new country. The show covers some rather heavy topics such as family, religious conflict and immigration with a deft yet funny touch. I still can’t believe how well they walk the line. The CBC’s sitcom is unexpectedly relevant, informative and hilarious.
Just watch it. It’s one of the most wholesome comedies I’ve ever seen from a North American TV network. Right now it’s free to watch on TubiTV and Youtube.
The Tuneful
State Champs
It’s no secret to anyone who knows me that I love music. And State Champs are a rock band that checks off a lot of my boxes.
These brash and crass upstate New Yorkers, led by frontman Derek DiScanio, pen punky tunes for the young at heart. These are perfect albums for a jog, or for driving down the road on a sunny day. Their most recent album, Kings of the New Age, will put every aging rocker kid right back into the sun-drenched parking lots of his youthful concert phase.
And that breakup anthem...what a banger.
The Change we want to see…
The word ”Disrupt” has become such a cliché and very rarely does a product actually seem like it could change the world. However, I recommend that you read about this invention, for it is one of those rarities that could actually change the world.
The Tunisian company Kumulus has developed a water generator that produces drinkable hydration out of thin air. The generator has already been beta-tested in Saharan schools, and appears to really work! Really seems like a legit game changer for millions of people around the world, especially those who do not have access to clean water. It’s such a huge step forward for global sustainability and development.
